Fujisan — The Shifting Sunset

Last autumn, after first making out its faint silhouette, I realized that Mount Fuji is visible right when you step out of my home. From then on I began to feel, all over again, how the Earth’s tilt shifts where the sun sets. With this mountain as a landmark, every photograph I took felt like a slice of time, and as the slices layered up, time and the seasons began to flow.

This piece is built from over 100 photographs of Mount Fuji taken from the same spot at different moments. The mountain’s outline is aligned across every frame, and your phone’s tilt sensor plays back the relationship between Fuji and the sun across dates and times, letting time flow with the angle of the tilt.
